HIMAA Qld Branch hosted a seminar on Digital Transformation on 26 May, hosted at the Qld Head Office of the event’s sponsor – 3M. With 45 registered to attend, the day started with a presentation from Trudy Stone, who is currently a Project Manager with the Queensland Department of Health. Trudy has extensive experience managing the implementation of projects and she shared with the audience what the common factors and considerations were in successfully engaging and managing people through change.

We then heard from James Muller and Gihan Ranatunga from Digital Metro North as well as Kirsten Hinze and Simon Foster from Gold Coast Health on the various digital projects and initiatives that have been implemented and are looking to implement in the digital transformation space. It was fascinating to see how automation is being used to both improve data quality and shift the focus of skilled staff from ‘low value’ repetitive tasks to those tasks requiring more attention, while also navigating the challenges of maintaining data privacy. We were even left to ponder what the future of digital health care might look like.

Finally, we wrapped with a panel Q&A of the presenters as they shared their thoughts on where they see the health information management profession playing pivotal roles in the future, and the challenges of advocacy for the profession.

Overall, it was a brilliant turnout for HIMAAQ’s first professional development event in over two years, leaving attendees excited with a lot to look forward to in the future. HIMAAQ would like to thank the presenters for sharing their experiences and the event’s sponsor 3M, without which the event would not be possible.
