Our student of the month for June is Hazel Patani from Caversham in Western Australia. Hazel scored 99% in medical terminology and 94% in clinical coding and is due to complete the 22274VIC Certificate IV in Clinical Classification very soon.

We asked Hazel the following questions.

What led you to enrol in our entry level course?

I am a registered nurse by profession, and I wanted to try a different path in my career. I came across the clinical coding profession and after doing some research, I felt it was the right career for me.  I also came to know about the huge potential for clinical coding in this modern world.

What did you enjoy most about the course?

The course is well structured with a duration of 2 years with enough breaks in between the clusters. The course itself was interesting and I learnt about new software and technology, and the importance of clinical coding in the health industry which kept me motivated.

Why did you choose clinical coding as a career pathway?

Looking for a better work life balance and still being able to use my medical knowledge was highly important. Coding is very important work within the healthcare system, allowing for appropriate funding and thereby helping people access the right medical care.

Clinical coders play an important role in healthcare and I am extremely happy to choose clinical coding as my career path.
