Our student of the month for April is Zoe Farr from Brunswick East in Victoria. Zoe scored 99% in medical terminology and 100% in the clinical coding exam. Zoe is due to complete the 22274VIC Certificate IV in Clinical Classification and is keen to start consolidating her clinical coding knowledge.

We asked Zoe the following questions.

Why did you choose clinical coding as a career pathway?

I have a background in science and wanted to transition into a different field. My main focus when deciding on a career pathway was to find a role where I would enjoy the day-to-day work because it utilised my strengths. Clinical coding seemed like the perfect fit.

What led you to enrol in our Certificate IV course?

The HIMAA Certificate IV course is well-established, and purpose built for remote learning. Because the course is set up for part-time study, I could work at a regular pace and keep my full-time job.

What did you enjoy most about the course?

The course structure and content were well-designed and the education officers provided clear explanations and feedback, which made it a satisfying study experience. The aspect I enjoyed most was the coding itself. Finding the pertinent information and following the classification rules to find the correct code feels like solving a puzzle, which is what I like doing in my spare time! I am looking forward to applying what I have learnt in this course in a hospital setting and am happy that I have chosen a career that I know I will enjoy.
