South Australian Branch Update

South Australian Branch Convenor I   Terry Seery

The SA Branch held an end of year Christmas dinner at the Kentish Arms hotel, and whilst it was a small gathering all members enjoyed catching up to celebrate another busy year. It was great to see familiar faces and discuss past and future challenges and the public facilities transition into the Electronic Medical Record environment. Also attending was a valued member of the newly rebadged South Australian Health Information Governance Unit (HIGU), which is replacing the Medical Records Advisory Unit.

In addition to HIGUs usual clinical coding advice and notifications, HIGU is facilitating a much-needed Clinical Coding Community of Practice group that will allow the SA coding community (both in private and public health facilities) to have a voice with a focus on significant projects to assist coders and the coding community. For example, HIGU aim to build up the Clinical Coder profile to gain better recognition for skills and responsibilities, and governance over data supported by state-wide policies.

The SA Branch 2023 meetings will be more wide-ranging so our country members can participate, and this can be achieved by embracing the electronic environment. Online demonstrations on virtual care, clinical trials showcasing capabilities will hopefully attract interest. Breakfast meetings are still the most popular and are currently being planned.
