National HIM Week

Thank you to Northern Adelaide Local Health Network Health Information Services for sharing their National HIM Week photos. Acknowledging the vital role that HIM professionals play in healthcare was celebrated throughout the week with members of the coding / HIM team showcasing their achievements and contributions to inspire others. Raising awareness about the critical role they play in the hospital was well received. Congratulations to the four lucky prize winners too!

Education / Information Session

In line with HIMAA’s commitment to advancing knowledge and skills, the SA Branch recently hosted an enlightening education session focused on atomic data. The session, a resounding success was presented by subject matter expert Heather Grain exploring the significance of atomic data and its profound impact on the quality of healthcare information management.

Understanding atomic data is essential as it underpins the accuracy, integrity, and interoperability of health information systems. By understanding the nuances and intricacies of atomic data, coders can make more informed decisions in the coding process.

Heather was a tough act to follow, however extremely well received were two amazing presentations by Naomi Johnson and Kate Francis who shared their career histories, expertise and insights. Identifying how far and wide a career in clinical coding could take you was inspiring and provided evidence that there are definitely extensive opportunities in our profession.

Up Coming Event

The SA Branch will be holding the end of the year annual Christmas Social Gathering in November. A Survey will be going out soon to determine the type of event members would prefer, so please ensure you respond.
