Happy New Year! HIMAAQ has been busy planning exciting things for 2022, but let’s first start with a look back how we closed out 2021.
Networking Dinner at Persone
We were treated to a night of Italian fine dining, beautiful river views and catching up with HIMAAQ members right across the state, all the way from Cairns to even across the border in northern NSW! After a year of isolation, border restrictions and lockdowns, the night out was just what was needed to feel normal again.

Christmas and New Graduate Celebration
On 3 December 2021 we held our annual Christmas and New Graduate celebration dinner at Brooks & Stain which was kindly sponsored by Grace Records Management. We were lucky enough to have the entire venue to ourselves so we were free to enjoy ourselves!

At the 2021 National Conference Hiep Luu was announced as the Queensland Branch Student of the Year, and Grant Duffill was awarded both the Queensland Branch Practitioner of the Year and the National HIMAA Practitioner of the Year. As the National Conference was delivered online there wasn’t the opportunity to present the certificates in person so the end of year event was the perfect time to confer the awards and congratulate the winners. Unfortunately Grant was unable to attend the event but his achievements were recognised on the night nevertheless.

It was great to see such a high student turnout at the event with half of those attending being students. We wish all the 2021 graduates the best of luck and look forward to working alongside you.

HIMAAQ Mentoring Program
The HIMAAQ Mentoring Program for 2022 is about to kick off following the successful relaunch in 2021. Expressions of interest for both students (mentees) and mentors have already been issued. We try our best to match the interests of mentees to mentors who have a similar background so if you would like to share your knowledge and experience, please consider applying here or get in contact with us if you have any questions.
Finally, a big thank you to these brilliant HIMAAQ Branch Committee volunteers for pulling together all the wonderful events in 2021 which just wouldn’t be possible otherwise: Kathleen Rogers, Alisha Lucas, Yvonne Seidel, Karen Baker, Tammy Kang, Rachel Thursfield, Joy Smith, Grant Duffill and Anita Forrester. This year we have welcomed new branch committee members Emma Parras and Munique Seidel!
We could always use more help so if you would like to volunteer on the HIMAAQ committee, please email qldbranch@himaa.org.au for more information
