We will be showcasing one of our top 22247VIC Certificate IV in Clinical Classification students every month to assist our students in meeting potential employers.

Our first student is Sandhya Chavan from Plympton in South Australia. Sandhya scored 97.5% in medical terminology and 98% in her clinical coding exam. Sandhya has a couple of assessments to complete in Cluster 4 but is ready and willing to hit the ground coding. We asked Sandhya the following questions.

Why did you choose clinical coding as a career pathway?

Being a medical graduate with extensive overseas work experience in ICD-10 coding, I wanted to pursue the same career path here, in Australia. On searching the internet, job sites and social media I have found there were many opportunities in the field of clinical coding.

What led you to enrol in our entry level course?

I felt HIMAA was the best organisation to help me enter a clinical coding career in Australia. HIMAA provides various educational paths not only to build a base understanding but also sharpen the existing skills in coding. Hence, I have started my educational journey with HIMAA.

What did you enjoy most about the course?

What I enjoyed the most about the course was that I could study in my own time. The Education Officers were easily approachable and supportive. Their prompt replies to my queries and guidance always encouraged me to go beyond my abilities and to study hard. HIMAA provided easy-to-understand and self-explanatory study material which helped me through, step by step to learn clinical coding according to the Australian coding standards. HIMAA helped me to bridge the gap between ICD-10 and ICD-10-AM.
