Our student of the month for June is Nagesh Sunkara from Flagstaff Hill in South Australia. Nagesh scored 96% for clinical coding and has successfully completed the HLT50321 Diploma of Clinical Coding.

We asked Nagesh the following questions.

What led you to enrol in the Diploma?

After my master’s degree with research abruptly stopped due to funding issues, I had to pursue something that would be cognitively enriching.  I did reach out to my close friends, especially my lovely wife, but could not locate anything.  In November 2021, I happened to meet a friend after a long time and during our chat “Clinical Coding” came up as she was already employed as a coder.  Whilst she outlined coding, it got me intrigued and honestly, I felt my search was finished and the rest followed.

What did you enjoy most about the course?

With no second thought, the coding Cluster and my Education Officer who was a jewel in the crown.  Her perseverance to support & guide her students was unprecedented and I feel blessed.

Why did you choose clinical coding as a career pathway?

As aforementioned, when the thought of shifting my career emerged, clinical coding felt interesting & challenging, thus I made the decision.
