HIMAA State Branches are gearing up for activities. It is great to see the first one up and running from NSW with a focus on Digital Health, with speakers from ACT Health talking about EPIC EMR Implementation Document Scanning. The session will include a panel discussion, HIS tour and lunch held on 26 April 2023.

Our commitment to bring Professional Development opportunities, which are accessible to all, continues via a one hour online lunchtime webinar. We have engaged iMedX to deliver three clinical coding webinars this year, with the first being delivered on 18 April 2023 titled Unpacking ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS 12th Edition Changes. During the year iMedX will also be running a session on Sepsis and Drug Resistance (May/June) and Diabetes and Neoplasms (September).

If you or your organisation are keen to share your experience and expert knowledge with the HIMAA audience via a PD Webinar, please contact events@himaa.org.au. We would love to hear from you!

The joint 20th IFHIMA Congress and 40th National HIMAA Conference is now open for EARLY BIRD registration. Please go to https://ifhimacongress2023.com.au/ to view the Draft Program as well as the sponsorship prospectus. Members can register through the HIMAA member portal to receive the member discount. Tell your colleagues to join as a member now to receive a special conference registration offer.

While you are in the Member area, don’t forget to update your details, specify your area of interest and to view/search the Member Directory. Throughout this year we will be activating more functionality in the Member area. HIMAA is bolstering the opportunity for members to connect and network, not only through HIMAA events, but via the membership software.

Please bookmark https://www.himaa.org.au/about-himaa/opportunities/ to keep an eye on your opportunity to connect and contribute. Communication about these opportunities are also sent via email as well as posted on our LinkedIn. Currently, the Research Advisory Committee is seeking members and the EOI is due by 28 April 2023.

Invitation to register for Coder Performance Standard Survey

We would like to invite all Australia-based Clinical Coders, HIM-Coders and Coding Educators, Managers and Auditors to register for a very important survey. Please register by emailing your name, state of residency and email address by 20 April 2023 to a dedicated email address: ccwg@latrobe.edu.au.

Everyone who has registered will receive the online survey in late April. It will capture the views of members of the national coding workforce on a new national Draft Clinical Coder Performance Standard. This workplace-based Standard defines expected capabilities of staff employed as Clinical Coders across differing levels of employment: Trainee through to Advanced, and Auditor/Educator. It will replace the current 1996 National Clinical Coder Competency Standard and Assessment Guide. The survey has Ethics approval and the full support of HIMAA.

It is important for all HIMAA members and others who are employed in the coding workforce to have their say about this new Standard. Please register and encourage all your Clinical Coder friends to do the same: ccwg@latrobe.edu.au.

As usual, please feel free to reach out to me to chat.
