Call for Expression of Interest – Membership of HIMAA Education Committee

HIMAA is seeking Expressions of Interest (EoI’s) from members to join its national Education Committee. The Committee and its specialist Sub-committees and Working Groups have a busy agenda to:


  • Keep abreast of trends and developments in the healthcare sector that impact upon the profession or require HIMAA members to acquire updated skills and knowledge
  • Provide strategic advice to the Board of Directors on (i) all matters concerning education of the health information management workforce, and (ii) the higher education landscape
  • Create and maintain currency of HIMAA’s professional competencies and Competency Standards
  • Advise the Accreditation Council on HIMAA’s minimum professional educational standards and requirements
  • Inform, manage and support HIMAA’s
  • Engagement with higher education providers and other stakeholders in health information-related formal education
  • Professional Development (PD) program – in collaboration with the CEO’s operational management
  • Inform HIMAA’s Professional Credentialling Scheme (PCS)


Examples of current work of the Education Committee and its Sub-committees and Working Groups:


  • Developing or renewing sub-sets of Entry-level Health Information Manager (HIM) Competency Standards for (i) Health Data Analytics and (ii) Clinical Document Integrity
  • Rolling updates of all HIM professional Competency Standards
  • Researching and developing Clinical Coder workplace performance standards
  • Revising and streamlining HIMAA’s PCS
  • Re-focusing and strengthening the content of HIMAA’s PD Program

 

Selection criteria – Essential


  1. Membership: Current membership of HIMAA in all categories, except Student Member.
  2. Experience: Minimum five years’ of post-graduation professional health information management or clinical coding experience as a senior HIM, health information management course co-ordinator, or HIM or Clinical Coder practitioner in at least one of the profession’s domains:
    • health information management (operational and governance; policy; privacy; medico-legal; auditing; statutory reporting; clinical documentation integrity; quality management)
    • health classification (clinical coding; funding applications; auditing; clinical claims; classification development)
    • health ICT and informatics (EMR or other health system or database development, implementation, or management)
    • health data analytics, population health data management, managerial epidemiology, or research.

 

Additional note re eligibility

 

  • HIMAA members who undertake expert casual, sessional or guest lecturing or tutoring, are eligible to apply.
  • The following members are not eligible to apply owing to potential conflict of interest:
    • Full or part-time heads, co-ordinators or teaching members of academic units that offer a health information management, clinical coding or related (e.g. health informatics, digital health, practice management) course.
    • Members of the HIMAA Accreditation Council, except the Chair.


Eligible HIMAA members are encouraged to submit an EOI by email, with:

  1. One paragraph briefly explaining the nature of their interest
  2. A second paragraph briefly outlining how their experience and qualifications address the selection criteria
  3. Attached resumé.


EoI’s should be emailed to the office of the CEO at:  executiveoffice@himaa.org.au by 9.00am, Monday 6 September 2021.

 

The selection panel will comprise representatives of the Education Committee.

Note: All HIMAA members (excepting Student Members), regardless of length of post-graduation experience, are most welcome to apply for membership of the Education Committee’s Sub-committees and Working Groups, for which separate EoIs are issued.
